With 10mins remaining Riada added their fifth from Dempsey and finally after good work from a good pass from Shirley to Dempsey who then delivered a great cross over for Wilson to head home and secure a great all round team performance and their best display of the season. The whole squad got used on Saturday and they all tried to play attractive football in awful conditions. U14NI Cup Riada 3 v 0 Larne Colts Riada played with the wind in the first half and put a lot of pressure on the Larne’s defence and this actually lead to Riada’s first goal when Boyle headed Osborne’s in-swinger in. McMullan and Osborne were in tremendous form and Osborne punched to score a great goal just before half time. In the second half Riada were under severe pressure but the Riada’s defence of Hunter Craig Conlon O’Neill and O’Kane were superb and dealt with any danger. The midfield of Carton Boyle, Coburn and Donaghy worked tirelessly through out the contest and were rewarded from a bit of magic from Donaghy who had the vision and pass to put Carton clear and he calmly slotted home Riada’s third. U15 Report Riada 2 v 0 Tullans Riada played Tullans in very windy conditions on Saturday and with behind them in the first half Rafferty opened the scoring after 5mins. Tullans had chances to equalise but good defending from Craig and Shirley prevented Tullan’s scoring. In the second half Dempsey extended Riada’s lead and Riada were playing football as the match wore on but to be fair to Tullans they kept battling away to the final whistle. MOM Tiernan Rafferty.

Although the score line says it was a very comfortable victory for the visitors it was a very different story in the first half. Riada’s manager believes that his side’s first half performance was the best of the season and the score line at half time was 1-1. He was impressed with the commitment his players put into the match and showed to him that that this bunch of players are developing and improving. Riada had a squad of 18 players on Saturday and he wanted to get everyone involved and with this happening the Riada team lost their composure and with two og’s at the start of the second half Cookstown dominated the second half completely. U12 Riada 3 v 4 Tobermore
What a thriller at Megaw Park on Sat morning. Riada controlled all the play in the first half and should have had the game won by half time with goals from Liam McKenna, Mathew Caulfield and Daniel McKenna, Riada felt the contest was over and there were also several near misses throughout the half but Tobermore did manage to pull one back before half time. In the second half Tobermore got some belief and started a dramatic comeback with two goals, one from the penalty spot. With 5 mins remaining Tobermore scored a cracker to record their first win in the league cup. Hopefully Riada players will learn something from this contest that football is a funny old game! Also in action on Saturday was the new U15 outfit under the well-known manager Bassy Shirley who had a friendly against local outfit Tullans and came away with a sound 6-4 score-line. This U15 outfit at the start of the season had lost a lot of players but in recent weeks this new look squad have came together and have been accepted to compete this season in the Coleraine & District League. Special mention this week must go to ex-Riada players James McLaughlin & Daryl Hanna along with Ballymoney High School boy Richard Vauls have been selected in the Kenny Shiels N.I. U17 Squad for this weeks European Qualifying matches scheduled in Northern Ireland this week. Riada Soccer School would like to wish all the boys good luck and its great to see the youth of the Causeway Area getting recognised with international duties.
Sat. 7th Oct. 2006 Aquinas 0 v 3 Riada U16 Riada started the match in an assured manner, moving the ball well and taking the game to Aquinas. McKinney pushing forward from fullback was creating problems for Aquinas and good link play with Paul and Lynas created openings for Quigg but his shooting was off target. Riada continued to press and again good link play through the midfield released Lynas through on goal but again the finish was straight at the keeper. Aquinas then came into the game and forced a series of corners but the defence held firm to clear the danger. Riada pressed on to halftime, creating half chances but failing to test the Aquinas keeper. Riada started the second half in determined mood and pegged Aquinas into their own half. Sustained pressure forced a corner and the deadlock was broken when Quinn converted with an easy header. Aquinas reacted badly to this and became more physical with some rash challenges going in, one of which forced McKinney to come off and a second on Dunbar saw the Aquinas player red carded. Riada took full advantage of the extra man and additional space when Paul won the ball on the edge of the “D” and fed Anderson whose shot was fumbled by the keeper for Lynas to slot home. Riada continued to control the game and Lynas made it 3 when he converted Quiggs cross from close range. Final score Aquinas 0 Riada 3
Results: 30th September 2006 Riada travelled to Belfast on Saturday with four teams but unfortunately the U10 team didn’t get a match due to their opponents not being able to turn up at the venue. However this keeps there 100% record in tact going into this weeks encounter with St Oliver Plunkett who are also with 100% record at present. There were good wins for U13’s who are currently equal top in their league and the U16’s who move into second in their league. Finally the U12’s played a league cup encounter at home on Saturday in the Coleraine & District. U12 Riada 1 v Cookstown 7 Riada played a very strong well organised Cookstown team on Saturday and straight from the kick off Riada knew that they were going to have an up hill challenge. Cookstown were physically stronger and bigger but credit to the home side they kept battling and played attractive football throughout the game. The Cookstown team had the game really wrapped up by half time but Riada did manage to pull one back through McMullan before the interval. This is still a learning curve for these youngsters getting introduced to grass 11 a side football but it was great to watch them expressing themselves and it was very appreciated that a lot of the families turn out to support the team. All players tried extremely hard and enjoying themselves is the most important factor. Team McDonald Johnston McConaghie Wallace Doherty McMullan L. McKenna D. McKenna Caulfield Beckett Hunter Mullaghan McMillan Kelly Molloy U14 Riada 0 v 6 St Mary’s With a weakened team Riada were up against it from the start. Manager Hanna had four players missing from squad and it no surprise St Mary’s scored after 15 mins and never looked back with two more goals before the interval. In the second half it was very much the same with St Mary’s pressing and Riada could not find any openings to score. St Mary’s did manage to score another 3 before the final whistle to make it a depressing journey home to the Toon. Team Mooney Carton Donaghy Osbourne Anderson McKillop Martin Kane Boyle Conlon Grosvenor 0 v 4 Riada U16 As expected, the game was a contradiction in styles. Grosvenor attempting to bully and put Riada off their game and Riada intent on playing a passing game. The first half was a dull affair as far as football was concerned with both teams battling for the ball in midfield and chances few and far between, neither keeper being tested until McNeill effort on 25 minutes. This spurred Riada on and the deadlock was broken on 30 minutes when Quigg’s cross was turned into his own net by the Grosvenor fullback. Lynas and Paul replaced McDonald and Graham at half time and Lynas was quickly into the game, pressurising the Grosvenor backline. Quigg doubled the lead 10 minutes in to the second half when a poor clearance from the fullback allowed him through on goal and he finished coolly from a narrow angle. Lynas made it 3 on the 20 minute mark when Boyd released Quigg and his square pass found Lynas unmarked in front of goal to side foot home from 6 yards. Anderson rounded off the scoring on the final whistle with a well placed free-kick off the underside of the bar. Results: 23rd September 2006 U10 SBYL Riada 7 v 2 Rosario The U10's keep their 100% record in the SBYL with a convincing win over Rosario. However Rosario opened the scoring after 10mins but after Riada got settled and started to get their passing flowing it was not long before Lyons got in on the act and equalised. McConaghy put Riada in front with a well taken goal before half time but with the wind behind them in the second half it was all Riada and more goals followed with Lyons getting his hat trick Scozzario notching two and Knipe getting in on the act. Rosario did get a consolation goal for their effort. U12 Col Dist L/Cup Riada 1 v 0 Tobermore A terrific performance by the Riada team over in Tobermore on Sat. Riada played some very entertaining football and were always in control of this encounter. All over the park the team had a good shape and all the boys performed very well for only being together for a couple of weeks. The only goal of the game came from Caulfield who broke the offside trap and calmly slotted home the winner. U14 SBYL Riada 4 v 3 Shorts Shorts took the lead after 10mins but Riada were always looking dangerous with good passing and eventually equalised from McMullan. 2 mins later Riada took the lead though O'Kane and the score line remained the same to half time. In the second half Riada extended their lead though Coburn but Shorts made this a terrific contest with two quick goals to equalise again. However in the closing stages McMullan broke the offside trap and calmly slotted in the winner to the frustrated Shorts team. U16 Riada 4 v 1 St. Marys Riada started the match positively and settled quickly into their rhythm. Quigg and Lynas were lively upfront and St Marys couldn’t cope with their pace. The opening goal came in ten minutes when Quiggs cross found Lynas unmarked in the six yard box for an easy finish. Minutes later Lynas returned the favour from the right for Quigg to blast home from 10 yards. Riada continued to dominate, creating chance after chance but failing to convert. Anderson made it 3 when his corner was fumbled into the net by the St. Marys keeper. Mary’s pulled a goal back on the stroke of halftime when a deflected free kick wrong footed Sturgeon in nets. St. Marys started the second half on the attack but the Riada defence were able to cope with the pressure. Again Quigg and Lynas were a constant threat and only poor finishing kept St Mary’s in the game. Riada finally put the game out of reach when Quinn powered home a header from another Anderson corner, Riada running out comfortable 4-1 winners. Results: _16th September 2006 Riada Soccer School had five matches on Saturday with four matches in the South Belfast League and one in the Coleraine League Cup. There was an excellent win for the newly formed Under 10’s, a draw for the U13’s and three defeats for the U12’s, U14’s and U16’s. Col U12 Riada 1 v 2 Tullans. A great encounter between the two sides at Megaw Pk on Saturday morning. Tullans started the stronger and it was obvious that they played together for a while. Riada under intense pressure kept them at bay for most of the half with McDonald in goals and Wallace in defence were in fine form at the back. Just before half time Tullans took the lead but Riada’s started to play attractive football. The two McKenna’s were giving the Tullans defence problems and were unlucky not to score. Tullans extended their lead midway through the second half but Riada responded almost immediately through Daniel McKenna and the game was a very entertaining game for the spectators. Team C McDonald Johnston McConaghie Wallace Beckett McMullan Molloy Hunter L McKenna Mullagan D McKenna Wildsmith McFarland F McDonald McFall U14 Riada 0 v 7 Rosario Riada promoted to the Premier Division got a taste of what it’s going to be like when they got beat heavily by Rosario. Riada did start well and matched Rosario for the first 15mins but the bigger Rosario side started to get on top and when they eventually scored added two more before the break. Riada never gave up with RD and Kane working very hard and did create some chances for Riada. When the fourth goal went in for Rosario unfortunately Riada’s heads went down and three more goals were conceded before the final whistle. U16 Riada 0 v 5 SOPYC Riada kicked off and tried to play their normal passing game but it was obvious early on that St Oliver were not going to let them play. The game was pretty even when St Oliver took the lead with a well-taken goal. This spurred Riada on and Lyness and Quigg had near misses. St Oliver extended their lead from a well-taken corner. The second half was much the same with SOPYC making the tackles and although Riada did create chances SOPYC scored three more to end a bad day at the office for the Riada outfit. Results for Saturday 2nd September Riada started off this new season in SBFL with two wins. First of all the U13's under the guidance of Jackie McBride + Mark Freeman with a excellent victory against Bryansburn. Last years U15 champions Riada got a comfortable victory in the U16 section against Shorts. U16 Riada 3 v 1 Shorts With new manager Des Paul away on family commitments the U16's under stalwart John Fall secured their first victory of the new season. U16, s with some new signings started well and controlled the first half. The defence of McWilliams, O'Neill Quinn and Reid looked very solid, new signings of Sturgeon, Graham, Lyness and McDonald showed they were very capable at this level and the remainder of last year's squad continued the way they left off from last season. It was the impressive 'Figo' Quigg opened the scoring in the first half and although Shorts played some neat football, Riada had to work hard to eventually go 2-0 up when new boy 'Crock' Graham scored a cracker from outside the box. Fall at this stage introduced the rest of the squad and Lewis secured the points with a well taken goal. Shorts finally got a consolation goal near the final whistle.
